Story starting to lag? Keep readers glued to your book with these tension-building tips. Tension allows you to:

  • Introduce change and uncertainty

  • Heighten the stakes

  • Construct surprises and plot twists

  • Show subtext and drama

  • Push the boundaries in dialogue

  • Create character conflict

  • Provide foreshadowing

Bring a laptop, notebook, or what-have-you so you can take notes!
